The History of Camp Funshine...

First year at Camp Funshine and we are off to a great start! Much of our staff had been regular visitor's of Camp Fun.  We have brought back many of those fond memories. The camp theme this first year was, "Be all you can be!" John and Sheila Lee, Jeff Brown, and Dr. G spent many months in 1995 getting the foundation together to make camp possible.  More details to come.
The theme this second year was "Mardi Gras". Another great year.  The water war got everybody wet.  I never saw so many water guns. Steve was taking lots of pictures, and he and Jason were reporting the camp news. Jeff and Wes won the 'wheel-barrel race', what a ruckus!
"Cruise Aboard the S.S. Funshine" - This theme worked well and we all had fun. A big addition this year was the clowns. Katy Mae and Nozzle had a wonderful act that got everybody laughing.  Camp Sionito celebrated 50 years of providing camping facilities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
1999 Camp Theme - "Round Up '99".  We had a small camp this year, but it made us all the more close. The river was a raging current, which made tubing much more fun! Simon did a great job on the daily newsletter, and the boys and girls were building pine wood derby cars like crazy.
With the addition of this web page, we have made many new friends from all across the U.S. wanting to go to camp this year. Unfortunately or camp doctor, who helps make sure we all stay safe and healthy, was not able to make it to camp and we had to cancel.  We are striving to make sure that every year we take health and safety seriously.
Camp this year was a big success!  Our camp theme was "Going 'On Safari' at Camp Funshine" We had campers fly in from all over the country. We created safari hats, went horseback riding, and had a great water fight. The talent show was filled with a few up and coming singers, as well as, some funny skits ready for prime time television.
Camp Funshine 2002 was a tremendous success, despite the down pour of rain causing flooding throughout the area.  People couldn't get in or out - but that's ok because we were having so much fun we didn't want to leave any ways!  In fact, we stayed an extra day for good measure!  Each day we celebrated a holiday or a celebration that takes place in different countries.  We did crafts that were appropriate to each day, and our meals complimented the day, such as making maracas and eating burritos on Fiesta Day, to making lei's and eating teriyaki chicken on Luau Day.  Kids won some great prizes at our carnival and everyone had a blast on the Huge inflatable water slide.  Looking ahead to next year and what adventures lie ahead.
Theme this year was "Circus Day's".  To say we didn't have a rousing great time, I would be a lion!  Our camp doctor this year was the legendary cystic fibrosis doctor, Dr. Gunyon Harrison - so we were in very safe hands.  We also had many new faces that I'm sure will become regular camp attendees.  This year we took everyone to a challenge ropes course, where the real challenge was to stay dry!  The rains came and drenched our plans of climbing high on the ropes, but we still had a blast on the low elements.  Next year hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can swing in the tress like monkey's!  We had a great time tubing down the beautiful Medina River.
We don't like to blow our own horn, but we definitely are singing the praises of camp 2004! "Music Makes the World Go Round!" was the theme that kept us moving' and groovin' this year. Each day presented new gifts and challenges. Amongst many activities, we rode horses with the best of them, tubed the Medina, and reached dizzying heights on a ropes challenge course. Care and friendships made a week like no other. Our week together whizzed by much too quickly.
Camp Funshine "Goes to the Movies".  Look out Hollywood Here we come!  Take one - We enjoyed many activities over the week including canoeing in the river, trail horse rides, nightly campfires, and flying high on the ropes course.  What a great week of friendship and fun!  And Cut, That's a Wrap!
This year we had "Fun in the Sun" in our new location at Camp Chaparral in Wichita Falls.  It was hot, but that did not stop the fun.  We had a blast in the very large pool and on the inflatable water rides.  We rode horses, shot arrows, had a Mr. Potato Head scavenger hunt, hunted for Snipe under the full moon, learned some new campfire songs and of course enjoyed the ever popular Ropes Course.  We again met some new friends and reunited with old friends.  We can't wait to come back to Camp Chaparral next year.
